France won 3-0 with authority and generated chances worth 3.2 goals

France beat Sweden 3-0 in the World Cup — Round of 32 and backed up the result with a far superior performance. The gap in chances, possession and shots left a one-sided match in the numbers.

France beat 3-0 Sweden in the World Cup — Round of 32 and the scoreline fully reflected what the match showed. The standout statistic was the gap in attacking output: France generated chances worth 3.2 goals, compared with 0.6 for Sweden, in a game in which they also had 62% possession and much more presence in the opposition box.

Tactical view

The numbers paint a pretty clear picture. France controlled the ball for longer, with 62% possession, and turned that into real volume: they took 25 shots, 12 of them on target. Sweden, by contrast, were much more limited, with just 38% possession and only 6 shots (2 on target). That difference in shots and chances created explains why the 3-0 does not look like an exaggerated scoreline, but rather a fairly logical reflection of what each team produced.

The setup also helps explain how the game unfolded: France lined up in a 4-2-3-1 and Sweden in a 4-4-2. In that context, the French side found more ways to progress and finish moves, while Sweden were left with less attacking weight and far less ability to respond. The chance-creation figures reinforce that reading: France did not just win, they did so while creating far more danger than their opponents allowed.

The match broke open just before halftime with Kylian Mbappé's goal in the 45'. That first blow changed the picture and left France in control of a match that had already tilted in their favor statistically. Then Bradley Barcola made it 53', and later Mbappé struck again in the 74' to seal the result. Those three goals complete a performance in which France did not need to force the issue: they maintained their superiority, turned it into chances and also into a lead on the scoreboard.

The standout performers

The ratings also support the match narrative. Among the best on the day were:

  • Kylian Mbappé (9.6): the highest rating of the match, backed by his 2 goals.
  • Michael Olise (8.9): one of the most prominent France names in the individual ratings.
  • Jacob Widell Zetterström (8.7): Sweden's highest-rated player despite the defeat.

Mbappé was the clearest standout not only because of the brace, but because his rating was higher than every other player mentioned in the section. Olise also ranked among the highest-rated French players, a sign that the team had more than one way to sustain its attacking production. For Sweden, Zetterström's rating stood out in a match where his side conceded far more than it created.

In short, France won with authority, were superior in possession, shots and chances created, and also got key contributions from their biggest names on the scoresheet and in the ratings. Sweden, meanwhile, were too far behind in production to seriously challenge the result.
