Gimnasia M. struck first, created more, and settled it with two Modica blows

Gimnasia M. beat Talleres 3-1 at the Victor Legrotaglie and backed up the result with more clear chances: it generated 2.5 expected goals to 1.2. Even with less possession, it was sharper and found its star in A. Modica.

Gimnasia M. came away with a 3-1 win over Talleres at the Victor Legrotaglie, and the biggest stat of the night was that the home side turned its production into goals more effectively: it created chances worth 2.5 goals compared with the rival’s 1.2. Despite having less possession, 47% to 53%, it was the team that did the most damage in both boxes and reflected that on the scoreboard.

Tactically speaking

The difference between the two sides had nothing to do with possession and everything to do with efficiency and depth. Talleres had more of the ball, but Gimnasia M. got more shots away (18 to 12) and was also more accurate between the posts (7 shots on target to 5). That points to a clear trend: the match was not decided by who had the ball more, but by who made the best use of its attacks to create clean chances.

The home side lined up in a 4-3-1-2, while Talleres set up in a 4-4-2. Beyond the formations, the numbers show that Gimnasia M. found better ways to hurt its opponent. The gap in chances created goes hand in hand with the final 3-1 and leaves the feeling that the result was fully in line with what happened on the pitch.

In addition, the goal distribution shows a strong start from the home side: A. Modica opened the scoring at 9' and struck again at 20', a brace that put Gimnasia M. in a strong position from the outset. After that, L. Cingolani made it 51' and helped cement the lead during a stretch in which the home team was already on top.

Talleres’ response only came near the end, with S. Fernandez scoring at 85', when the match already carried a significant gap. In terms of production, the late goal was not enough to turn around a night that Gimnasia M. had controlled from very early on.

The match also had a major turning point: at 67', J. Franco was sent off for Gimnasia M. and R. D. Riquelme was sent off for Talleres. The double red card left both sides with ten men and removed any margin for speculation in the closing stages.

The standout performers

  • A. Modica was the clear man of the match with 9.6, backing it up with two goals inside the first 20'.
  • L. Cingolani also turned in a very high-level performance, earning 8.7 and crowning it with his goal at 51'.
  • For Talleres, E. Unsain was the highest-rated player with 7.9, on a night when the away side created less and arrived too late to the consolation goal.

As for the bookings, the split was even: 3 yellow cards each. But the weight of the match lay elsewhere: Gimnasia M. was more direct, more forceful and more efficient in the decisive areas.

The bottom line from the numbers is simple: Talleres had more of the ball, but Gimnasia M. generated more real danger, took more shots and justified the 3-1 with a clear edge in volume of chances. Modica’s blistering start and Cingolani’s contribution tilted the story early on.
