
Matchday 2 of the Clausura kicked off with wins for San Lorenzo and Banfield
San Lorenzo beat Gimnasia de Mendoza and Banfield overcame Sarmiento at the start of the second round of the Torneo Clausura. The matchday also featured several key fixtures on the calendar.
Matchday 2 of the Torneo Clausura began with two wins that shaped the opening of the round: San Lorenzo defeated Gimnasia de Mendoza and Banfield beat Sarmiento at the Florencio Sola.
Banfield’s win was the most dramatic: they prevailed 3-2 in a match with five goals, refereeing controversy and a suspense-filled ending. With that result, the team from the south side picked up its first three points in the competition and moved on from the setback on opening day.
In the other match, San Lorenzo also opened the round with a victory against Gimnasia de Mendoza. The Ciclón secured its first win of the second half of the season and gained some breathing room at the start of the championship.
The round continues with several intriguing fixtures, including Independiente vs. Newell’s, Gimnasia vs. River, Independiente Rivadavia vs. Huracán, Barracas Central vs. Aldosivi and Talleres vs. Vélez.
Only in Matchday 2, the Clausura is already starting to sort out the standings and draw early distinctions between the teams picking up three points and those still looking to get going.
