Banfield pulled one back through Sepúlveda from the penalty spot, but it was not enough to change the course of the match. With this victory, La Lepra picked up three points at home again and breathed easier in the competition.
In a short tournament where every point matters, the result allows Newell’s to keep climbing the table and leaves Banfield needing to respond in the coming rounds.
