The aftermath of the Supercopa Internacional did not end on the pitch. Estudiantes is now at the center of a formal investigation by the AFA over the incidents recorded at the Madre de Ciudades stadium in Santiago del Estero. The Disciplinary Tribunal has already opened a file and moved the case into a key stage.

What the Disciplinary Tribunal decided

According to the update known in recent hours, the disciplinary body began an investigation process that puts the spotlight on Verón, Angeleri and Caiella. Estudiantes' officials were given a deadline of five business days to submit their response.

In addition, the Tribunal requested all available video footage of the altercations. In other words: it is not limiting itself to what happened on the pitch or in the heat of the moment, but is seeking to back up the case with images.

The AFA Disciplinary Tribunal opened a file and requested a response from Estudiantes' officials within five business days.

An investigation that has only just begun

For now, the central fact is this: the AFA has already set the file in motion. There is no, at least in the available information, final ruling on sanctions or any more serious decisions. There is, however, a clear sign that the body decided to act quickly after what happened in Santiago del Estero.

The spotlight has fallen on the Estudiantes delegation and on the figures named in the file. The next step will be the club's response and the analysis of the material requested by the Tribunal.

In a context where every heated clash can end in concrete consequences, the Supercopa Internacional left more than sporting tension. Now comes the ground of paperwork, evidence and possible sanctions.
