Platense Turned It Around at the Finish and Created More Than Gimnasia M.
Platense's 2-1 win at the Víctor Legrotaglie was built on stronger production: it took 22 shots and finished with 1.8 expected goals, compared with Gimnasia M.'s 14 shots and 1.5. The even split in possession was only a minor detail; the difference lay in persistence and in the effectiveness of the final stretch.
Gimnasia M. started in front with A. Modica's goal in the 10', but Platense ended up winning 2-1 at the Víctor Legrotaglie. The most striking fact is that the visitors not only came from behind, they also produced more: they finished with 22 shots and 8 on target, compared with 14 and 2 for the home side.
Tactical reading
The numbers show a fairly even game in possession, with 49% for Gimnasia M. and 51% for Platense. That minimal difference in possession did not translate into similar parity in the box: Platense was much more aggressive in shot volume and found a better on-target rate, 8 out of 22, while Gimnasia M. finished with 2 out of 14.
In terms of chances created, the match also gives a clear reading: Platense produced for 1.8 goals and Gimnasia M. for 1.5. The gap is not huge, but it is enough to support the idea that the final result was not a statistical oddity. The visitors scored 2 times and the home side 1, in line with what each side built. In other words: Platense was a little closer to what it ultimately got, and Gimnasia M. fell a bit short of its production.
The shape also helps explain how the game unfolded. Gimnasia M. lined up in a 4-1-4-1, while Platense came out in a 4-2-3-1. Within that setup, the visitors found more attacking volume and better presence to sustain pressure on the opposition goal. The distribution of shots reflects that better than possession: the match was not decided by monopolizing the ball, but by who managed to turn that circulation into more dangerous approaches.
The standout performers
The ratings reinforce the reading of the result, especially on Platense's side:
- J. Gauto was the highest-rated player in the match with 8.2 and also scored the 1-1 in the 79'.
- Bruno Sepúlveda received 8.1 and scored the 2-1 in the 90+3'.
- For Gimnasia M., C. Rigamonti was the standout with 7.8.
The two highest names in the match were on the winning side, and that is no coincidence: both directly contributed to the comeback. By contrast, the best rating for the home side was not enough to preserve the early lead.
The turning point is crystal clear: J. Gauto's goal in the 79' changed the game's momentum and opened the door for Platense to go all in at the end. Then Bruno Sepúlveda's strike in the 90+3' finished off a comeback that had already been hinted at by the visitors' attacking volume.
The final balance leaves a fairly clear conclusion: Platense did more to win it and ultimately justified it with production, shots, and high ratings from the decisive names. Gimnasia M. started ahead, but could not turn that early advantage into enough control over the match.
