Estudiantes fought back with ten men and left the feeling it created more than it finished
The 3-3 draw at Estadio Jorge Luis Hirschi left an open match full of swings. Estudiantes de La Plata controlled the ball and produced more chances, but Instituto was highly efficient and struck at the start of the game and in the second half.
Estudiantes de La Plata and Instituto drew 3-3 at Estadio Jorge Luis Hirschi in a match that featured a notable stat from a numerical standpoint: the home side held 74% possession and created 2.0 scoring chances compared to the visitors' 1.2, but could not turn that superiority into a win. Instituto, with just 26% of the ball, held firm in the back-and-forth battle and found enough efficiency to move ahead several times.
Tactical reading
The game showed a clear difference between possession and productivity. Estudiantes de La Plata had the ball more, took more shots (15 to 9) and also hit the target more often (8 to 5), which initially points to a team with more initiative and greater attacking volume. However, the final result shows that production was not enough to settle the match.
On the other side, Instituto was more direct and made better use of its moments. With less possession and fewer shots, it still scored 3 goals, a very high level of efficiency relative to what it created. The comparison between Estudiantes' 2.0 scoring chances and Instituto's 1.2 reinforces the idea that the home side generated more, but the visitors were more dangerous when their chances came.
The foul count also helps explain the intensity of the clash: Estudiantes received 3 yellow cards and Instituto 5, a record that matches a broken-up, hard-fought game. In addition, the sending-off of S. Nunez in the 50' shaped the central stretch of the match and left Estudiantes at a numerical disadvantage for much of the second half.
Standout performers
The top ratings from the match confirm that there were strong individual displays on both sides, even in a six-goal draw.
- Perez Fabricio was the best for Estudiantes de La Plata with 8.2 and also scored the goal in the 86', the one that sealed 3-3.
- F. Suarez was Instituto's standout with 8.1 and opened the scoring in the 3'.
- G. Carrillo completed the match podium for Estudiantes de La Plata with 7.8 and scored in the 58'.
Turning point
The match had several swings, but the first was marked by F. Suarez's goal in the 3', which quickly put Instituto in front and shaped the home side's plan from the outset. Later, the game became even tougher for Estudiantes with the sending-off of S. Nunez in the 50'.
Between that blow and the following stretch, Instituto found two more goals: L. Mosevich in the 48' and J. E. Cordoba Mosquera in the 52'. Even so, Estudiantes stayed in the match, pulled one back through G. Carrillo in the 58', equalized with T. Palacios in the 65', and eventually rescued 3-3 through Perez Fabricio in the 86'.
The final contrast is quite clear: Estudiantes produced more, had more of the ball and finished with better attacking numbers, but Instituto was more efficient with its chances and earned a point in a match that stayed open until the final whistle. The gap between what each side created and what each side converted explains the result very well.
