Juan Manuel Cavagliatto made a strong political statement in Argentine football: Instituto will defend the 30-team format in the Liga Profesional “with teeth and nails.” The president of La Gloria said this type of tournament allows institutions like the one from Córdoba to compete on another stage and keep the representation of the Interior alive.

The official's stance put the focus on the competitive model. Cavagliatto stressed that the current system opens a window for clubs that, in smaller formats, usually end up more left out.

Defending a tournament that protects federal competition

Instituto's view aligns with a debate that has been going on for some time in Argentine football: how many teams the top division should have and what place clubs from the Interior occupy in that setup. For Cavagliatto, the current format not only sustains the sporting battle, but also gives a voice to institutions that represent other regions of the country.

Juan Manuel Cavagliatto, president of Instituto: “We are going to defend the 30 teams with teeth and nails”.
Juan Manuel Cavagliatto, president of Instituto: “This kind of tournament means that teams like ours can be in the fight, that we can have a say, and that the people from the Interior are happy”.

A debate that remains open in the Liga Profesional

The statement from the Instituto official adds explicit backing for the current format at a time when Argentine football is once again debating its structure. In that discussion, the Córdoba club is taking a regional perspective: the idea that the Primera División must also sustain the presence and competitiveness of teams outside the Buenos Aires axis.

For now, the message is clear: Instituto supports the 30-team tournament and presents it as a tool to keep competing and to ensure the Interior continues to have a leading role in the Liga Profesional.
