Platense won by being stronger in both boxes and took advantage of Corujo's sending-off
San Lorenzo had more shots, but Platense was much sharper: they won 2-0, created more, and hit the target with 5 of their 7 shots on goal. G. Corujo's red card in the 73' ultimately tipped a match that already favored the visitors in terms of game reading.
San Lorenzo lost 0-2 to Platense at the Estadio Pedro Bidegain in a match where the visiting side was more efficient in both boxes and ultimately more than justified the result. Although the home team had more shots, the difference lay in the quality of what it created: Platense generated 1.4 and scored twice, while San Lorenzo finished on 0.8 and could not turn its volume into real danger.
Tactical reading
The game makes one thing clear: San Lorenzo had more of the ball in terms of shots, but failed to turn that into depth. It managed 13 shots and only 4 on target, compared with 7 shots from Platense, which, despite lower volume, was far sharper: 5 on target. That difference in accuracy explains far more than possession, which also favored the visitors with 58% to 42%.
In terms of what each side created, Platense showed a better ability to reach finishing areas with fewer attempts. It did not need an attacking avalanche to do damage: with fewer shots, it was more effective and maintained a stronger threat level. San Lorenzo, meanwhile, was left with a more sterile kind of dominance, because the possession data and the number of shots did not translate into production matching its volume.
In addition, the disciplinary split and the closing stages of the match also matter in the reading. San Lorenzo finished with 1 yellow card and Platense with 2, but the biggest turning point was the red card to G. Corujo in the 73', a blow that left the home side even more constrained in its attempt to respond.
The standouts
The best-rated players in the match were on the Platense side, in line with the result and their greater efficiency:
- J. Gauto: 8.6. He was the standout performer according to the individual match ratings.
- K. Retamar: 8.2. In addition to his rating, he scored Platense's second goal in the 52'.
- Victor Cuesta: 7.8. He opened the scoring in the 22' and turned in a high-impact performance.
Within that context, Platense had three players rated very highly, and all of them were backed up by concrete facts from the scoreline and the attacking output. On the San Lorenzo side, the data set does not show any standout ratings.
The turning point came with Victor Cuesta's 1-0 in the 22'. That goal not only put Platense ahead early, but also set the tone from the visitors' advantage. The second goal, from K. Retamar in the 52', widened the gap and left San Lorenzo with a much tougher task. The sending-off of G. Corujo in the 73' effectively closed off any chance of a comeback.
The numbers leave a very clear conclusion: Platense won with fewer shots, better finishing, and a more convincing attacking output. San Lorenzo piled up attempts, but could not turn that volume into a favorable match nor into enough chances to challenge the 0-2.
