River currently appears in Sudamericana zone in the annual table

With the 16 matchdays of the Clausura regular season being added to what was done in the Apertura, the race for the cups is starting to take shape in the annual table. In that scenario, River is momentarily in Sudamericana spots, while Boca sits in Libertadores zone and four points behind the leader Independiente Rivadavia.

With the regular season of the Torneo Clausura and the points accumulated in the Apertura being added into the same tally, the tabla anual is starting to sort out the big battle in Argentine football. In that scenario, River is currently in Sudamericana zone, while Boca is in Libertadores zone and four points behind the leader Independiente Rivadavia.

The annual table is becoming increasingly decisive

The particular feature of this stretch of the calendar is that what happens over the 16 matchdays of the Clausura regular season is added to what has already been collected in the Apertura. That leaves several teams keeping an eye on the same table, with qualification for the cups at stake and also with the other side of the national battle still open.

That is why River's position in the annual table is no minor detail: it places them in a band where every point counts to stay in the race internationally. At the same time, Boca's outlook shows another reality within the same contest, with the Xeneize installed in Libertadores zone and still within reach of the lead.

The Clausura enters the defining stretch

Matchday 11 of the championship has already started to shake up the schedule. Independiente opened the round with a heavy 4-1 defeat to Instituto in Avellaneda, in a start that had a direct impact on the top of the table and on the mood of the tournament as well.

In addition, the round continues with several scheduled matchups that could end up settling the race:

  • Boca vs. Unión, at the Bombonera
  • Independiente Rivadavia vs. Gimnasia
  • Defensa y Justicia vs. San Lorenzo, in Florencio Varela
  • Newell's vs. Lanús, in Rosario
  • Atlético Tucumán vs. Barracas Central

What lies ahead for River in the cups picture

For River, the focus is on not falling out of the fight for the international places as the Clausura leaves less and less room. With the annual table as the main barometer, the Núñez side remains in the conversation for a place in the next Sudamericana, although the stretch ahead will be key in determining whether they can climb the standings.

The scenario is set: every match from here to the end of the regular season can move much more than just one table. In a season that will decide qualification for the cups, a title and even a relegation, the margin for error is getting smaller and smaller.

What comes next

Matchday 11 continues with matches that could alter the upper and middle sections of the tabla anual. With several teams fighting for the same objective, River will remain attentive to what happens while looking to hold on to its place in the cup zone and avoid losing ground in the final stretch.
