Placente spoke about a possible extension for Scaloni with the national team

Diego Placente once again turned the spotlight on the present and future of the coaching staff of the senior Argentina national team. After finishing runners-up at the Santa Fe South American Games, the coach took the floor and spoke about the possible renewal of Lionel Scaloni.

The response from the former full-back, developed at Argentinos Juniors and formerly of River, was cautious but clear: he did not hide his wish for the cycle to continue in charge of the senior side.

Placente's backing for the Scaloni cycle

The line left by the youth coach was brief, but enough to make his stance clear on a sensitive issue on the road to the 2026 World Cup.

Diego Placente, on Scaloni's renewal: “Hopefully that will be the case…”

That comment came during a conversation in which the coach also went deeper into the present and future of the senior team's current coaching staff. Without adding speculation, the message was clear: he wants the project to keep its current leadership.

A voice tied to the youth sides

Placente has been working with AFA's youth national teams and, after the tournament in Santa Fe ended, he reappeared publicly to speak about an issue that runs through the entire national team structure. His voice carries weight because of his career as a player and the role he now holds in Argentina's development setup.
